Whenever people try to tell me to ship “moral ships” I like to think about how inherently immoral it is to flirt with service workers at coffee shops where they’re obliged to be nice to you so… many coffee shop AUs are like. Immoral. But given that they are a fantasy where this is instant romance without the fear of trapping a service worker in an uncomfortable situation that’s tantamount to workplace sexual harassment, I enjoy the cutesy coffee shop AUs immensely.
And that’s basically my attitude towards all fantasy. There’s lots of things I enjoy in fantasy that wouldn’t work IRL. Enemies to lovers. Sudden kisses. Miscommunications in relationships. Codependency. Fight sluts who physically assault each other while emotionally connecting.
Once you start ascribing your morals to the fiction you consume, you tend to miss the issues in even the most innocuous, innocent seeming scenarios. It’s easy to judge other people’s fictional enjoyment until someone points out your innocent coffee shop AU is romanticised workplace harassment.
But it’s all fiction. It’s a fantasy. That’s why it’s fine.
A lack of education around things like consent, healthy relationships, self respect and respect of others, bodily autonomy, etc, has made people think they can rely only on fiction to tell them what right - but that’s dangerous. And unsustainable.
Marinette has been reincarnated as the villainess of a romance novel who has been betrothed to Prince Adrien since she was little. In the original novel, the villainess constantly clings to the prince and bullies girls she feels threatens their relationship. Eventually he meets the heroine and they fall in love. The villainess tries to poison the heroine, but is then exposed and executed at the command of her beloved prince.
Marinette wakes up as the 10 year old villainess and realizes her predicament. She has one goal in mind: break off the engagement before she can get executed!
Hm but for some reason the prince is acting quite differently towards her from the novel?
?!
Why doesn’t he want to break off their engagement?!
(Maybe it’s bc she is nothing like the original villainess and a certain boy has been in love with her since childhood now bc she’s been a total sweetie pie to him)
Friends, strangers, I want to share with you something I long thought I’d hallucinated, but which today I have discovered was absolutely real.
In the 90s my mum went to a number of Star Trek conventions and would often come home with a fan made tshirt. I need you to understand that my mother, barely 5’ tall, a catholic who to this day goes to church every Sunday, who was never heard to utter a swear word until I was in my twenties, who taught Grade One for decades at the local primary school. This woman, pure and innocent, went to a Star Trek convention and not only saw this tshirt but PURCHASED IT and now it’s been rediscovered in the garage and I’ve never been happier in my life.
I asked her what she was thinking and she said that she thought it was funny but when she brought it home my dad was (aside from side splittingly amused) absolutely adamant that she couldn’t wear it out in public because SHE WANTED TO DO THAT!! Grade One teacher, church on Sunday mum wanted to wear this around town! Who IS this woman I thought I knew??
Anyway now I have this awesome tshirt and I sort of want to frame it.
I just found someone selling a cushion made from the same shirt in VIC
I’m so glad I gave MP100 a chance. Ended up loving it and really relating to Mob as a character. I know some disagree, but Mob is coded as neurodiverse whether intended or not, and because of that he provides a not often seen character for those of us with similar traits to directly relate to.
